Tomorrow, April 20, 2009 on the Doctor Ira Breite Show on Sirius 114/XM 119

Hello Drivers!  Next week is Driver's week across SiriusXM, and my show is no exception to the rule.  But whether you drive a big rig, a hybrid, or ride a bike (yes, you can have SiriusXM on your motorcycle!) there are lot of important health issues for those of us on the road.  We'll be tackling some of them on the show tomorrow.

Heartburn is a huge problem for all of us: drivers and non drivers alike.  Joining me for a "heartburn duo" is Jill Sklar,  the author of "Eating for Acid Reflux: a Handbook and Cookbook for Those with Heartburn."  The one-two punch of gastroenterologist and cook should help you understand you reflux better and learn how to cope with it while minimizing your medication use!

If you have any questions about reflux, from the preparation of the right foods to the latest advances in surgical cures, give us at call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!

The spring brings it beauty, but it all brings beasts.  Joining me in studio is Doctor Radio Regular and Bug and Germ expert Phillip Tierno, PhD, the author of "The Secret Life of Germs."  We'll be talking about bed bugs (we are all obsessed with bed bugs in New York City at the moment, for reasons that will become clear to you as you listen) and how YOU can protect yourself and your family from infestation this spring and summer.

You will never look at a hotel room the same way again!

If you have any questions about how to protect your family and yourself from bed bugs and any other creepy crawly thing that might get you when you sleep, give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!

We will then combine our two topics!!!  We have all been reading in the news recently about various food infestations (I miss pistachios).  Well, as much as I have skills in treating food born illness, I'd be much happier if it never happened.  Joining me to give tips on how to avoid problems with YOUR food at home is Ms. Shelly Feist of the Partnership for Food Safety Information.

If you have any questions on keeping your family safe from the things you eat, give us call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!

Of course, we will have a great segment of ask Dr. Ira, where I will tell you about some of the stuff that I see in my own office as well as taking your calls on ANY MEDICAL TOPIC at all!

Give me a call with any medical question at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!

If you have any ideas for a show topic you'd like to hear let me know!  Send me an email to irabreite AT yahoo DOT com!

Happy birthday to me! Well, not yet, but it is this week. In honor of that, Melanie, my Producer, has helped put together my second annual BIRTHDAY SHOW, where a man in (early) middle age gets to ask all of the questions that he's always wanted to know. And so do you, by calling my guests at 1-877-NYU-DOCS.

First of all is the hair. The nemesis of the middle aged man. Have it and you can become President. Don't have it and the future is cloudy. I am clearly thinning and getting a bit worried. If you've ever wondered about hair restoration for yourself or a loved one, give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!

Dr. Joseph Alukal, director of Reproductive Health and Benign Diseases of the Prostate to answer all of my (and yours) questions about aging and sexual activity. I also read in the paper that vasectomies were on the rise (the economy) and will ask him about this procedure as well!

If you have any questions about sexual health, vasectomy or testosterone supplementation, give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS

Since seeing pictures from the early part of my vacation I have been hitting the gym and really trying to watch what I eat. (I think my new diet plan involves taking a photo of yourself every week). Joining me to keep me thin is Ms. Joy Bauer / a registered dietician and the author Joy's Life Diet, Four Steps to Thin Forever."

Diet questions??? Maintenance questions??? Call us at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!!

And then, ask Dr. Ira. Remember, if you have a question for me, leave me a message at irabreite@yahoo.com. I'll try to get to it during Ask Dr. Ira or turn it into a whole segment with one of the world's experts!

We are going to start off talking about my sub-specialty: Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Joining me will be Kimberly Fredrick from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. We will be talking about some new initiatives to help people affected with these diseases, as well as answering any of your questions about this (admittedly delicate but clearly important) subject.

If you have any questions at all concerning your bowel habits or abdominal pain about you or a loved one, now is a great time to call. Give us a ring at 1-877-NYU-DOCS.

Then, we will be talking with hematologist Bruce Rafael, MD about the blood....we all know its important, but did you know how many things can go wrong with it. Get all of you questions about anemia, leukemia and even polycythemia answered by a man who uses the word thrombocytopenia with ease!

On Vacation!!

Hi All.

I will be on vacation today and next week.  I will return March 30th on Sirius 114 and XM 119, Doctor Radio!

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Tomorrow, March 9th 2009, on the Doctor Ira Breite Show on Sirius 114 and XM 119: Doctor Radio

We have a great show planned for tomorrow. There's an old phrase in medicine, "when you hear hoofbeats think of horses, not zebras. I religiously ascribe to this practice, and it has served me well. But what if you live in Africa? Then it could be both. With that in mind, we are going to deal with some less common (but more common than you think) medical problems.

We're going to start off with the pituitary: the little gland that sits between your eyes and controls a ton of stuff in your body. A lot can go wrong with it: and its not as uncommon as you think. I will be talking with Dr. Ramesh Babu, a neurosurgeon at NYU, about this gland: what it does, what goes wrong and how it can be fixed (hint...he is a surgeon!).

If you have been having pretty much ANY vague medical problem that can't be clearly diagnosed, it might be your pituitary..give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS

After that, we are going to be talking about Celiac disease... the inability to digest gluten. Although one of my jobs as a GI doctor is to diagnose and treat this disease, I am excited to have one of the world's experts on the disease, Dr. Peter Green, to talk about this disease. Even if you think you know something about Celiac, Dr. Green can always teach you something new: I think I'm looking forward to this more than the audience!

If you have any questions about your digestion, or you are worried about celiac disease in either yourself or a loved one, give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS.

Then, onto the heart. Stephen Siegel, MD, cardiologist will join us to talk about stress and the heart. We will also be talking a little bit about the recent rash of celebrity aortic valve problems (Robin Williams and Barbara Bush).

If you are literally worried that your marital problems may literally be killing you, give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS.

As usual we will end the show with a full half hour of Ask Dr. Ira, our open phone segment, where you can ask me any problem on any medical topic at all. This is what I do all day, and I love to do it on the air, too.

Call me with any medical questions at all at 1-877-NYU-DOCS

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Tomorrow, March 2, 2009 on the Doctor Ira Breite Show on Sirius 114/ XM 199: Doctor Radio.

I had a great time Friday as a guest on Samantha Heller's Nutrition Show on Doctor Radio (12 PM Eastern Time on Friday's). We spent an hour talking about colon cancer and colon cancer prevention. Hopefully, she will have me back real soon! As I write this, the weather is starting to take an ugly turn here in New York City.

Snow or not, Sirius Doctor Radio will be open for business tomorrow, and we have a great show planned. I am starting off my talking with my boss, Dr. Marc Siegel, the Medical Director of Doctor Radio as well as a columnist for the LA Times, a contributor to Fox News and many other things. We'll be talking about new developments in the Flu, which along with the weather, has hit us here in the East. We'll also talk about bird flu (remember bird flu...well you should!)

If you have had the flu this year, or are worried about what to do if you think you have it, give us a call at Doctor Radio at 1-877-NYU-DOCS.

After this, Doctor Radio Regular and Cardiac Rehab Doctor Dr. Jonathan Whitson will join me. We'll be talking about whether anger can actually kill you! There has been a variety of research that has come out showing that stressful events may increase the death rate (my favorite being soccer matches in Europe) and a recent study seems to show this even more!

Has your spouse ever told you that you were so angry you looked like you could die? Maybe s/he's right. If you have any questions about this give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!

Then, from anger to cholesterol...its a cardiology day here on the Doctor Ira Breite Show! We'll be talking with Dr. Lawrence Phillips, Cardiologist, about this important topic and answering all of your cholesterol questions!

As usual, we will have a segment of Ask Doctor Ira, where I will happily answer any questions you may have on any medical topic whatsoever.

I look forward to hearing from you at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!!!!
