Happy New Year! Monday, January 4th, 2010 on the Doctor Ira Breite Show on Sirius 114 and XM 119: Doctor Radio
Hello all. After a little vacation we are back on the air and ready to go. We are getting 2010 off to a great start with our show this Monday. I had a week off from hockey (although we went skiing, so there was no break from the cold for me), but the omnipresent thoughts of concussions never leave my mind as I watch my children slam into other children in the pursuit of scoring or stopping a goal. Therefore I am very excited to have Dr. Kevin Guskiewicz, a professor and chair of the Department of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Director of the UNC Sport Related Traumatic Brain Injury Center will be joining us to talk about concussions in kids and adults. Dr. Guskiewicz is also a spokesperson for the National Athletic Trainers Association.
If you have any questions about preventing sports injuries in yourselves or your children give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!
We have had a lot of questions from listeners about celiac disease, and have two experts coming on to discuss this. And we have had some of the world's experts on the line. Dr. Peter Green, an expert on Celiac Disease at Columbia University will be joining us to talk about important clinical research, including new genetic tests that are widely available. He can also answer any questions that you may have on the clinical symptoms and signs of celiac disease.
If you are worried about your digestive issues, give us call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!
After Doctor Green, DR. Bana Jabri, MD, Ph.D.from the University of Chicago and the Co-Director of the U of C Digestive Disease Research Core Center and a Member of the Universities Celiac Disease Center will be joining us. Her research aims to find pre-clinical markers for people with celiac disease before symptoms even develop. As up to 1/3 of people have the "celiac" gene, her research is extremely important in trying to figure out who is at risk for this disease.
If you have an autoimmune condition such as diabetes or thyroid disease and are worried about your GI tract, give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!
We will of course end with Ask Dr. Ira. Fortunately, I have no great tales of winter rescue, but I do have some great stories from the office. We'll also be talking about some of the things that I learned from being a host on Doctor Radio that I use all the time as a physician!
If you have any medical question at all, give us a call at 1-877-NYU-DOCS!
